Long texts on screens can be tough to read, so we’ve put together some easy-to-follow information to help you pick, buy, and understand font licensing terms. If you have any special requirements, feel free to discuss them with us directly.
Our licences are ‘All in one’. This means that each license includes use for Print, Logotype design, Website, Social Media, Stream/TV/Movie, App/Games, e-Books, Hardware embedding, Server/Cloud. For more details, check the End User License Agreement (EULA).
The licence owner is the company/entity for whom the font will be used. If you buy a licence for yourself, it’s yours or your company’s. If it’s for someone else’s project, the client owns it. If you buy it on behalf of a client, ownership belongs to them unless you both share a legal entity. The designer cannot use the licence for projects other than those of the client.
The licence must be paid by the client, or the designers can pay for it on behalf of the client. Remember that the client will own it unless you have the same legal entity. You can edit the licence holder’s information during purchase and share the cart with the licence owner before checkout.
Size refers to the company using the font, based on the total number of employees. It doesn’t relate to how many people will use the font or how many computers it will be installed on.
You only need to upgrade your licence if your company’s size changes significantly. To upgrade, please contact orders@formulatype.com.
Our pricing is based on company size because larger organisations can gain more value from the same fonts. You only need to report the total number of employees for the licence owner. This way, there’s no need to predict how many people will be installing the fonts or track the website traffic over time.
You pay just once, and the licence is yours forever.
Prices do not include 22% Value Added Tax (VAT). We don’t charge VAT for companies with a registered VAT/Company/Tax number. If you don’t have any of these, please email us for assistance.
We use Stripe for payments. If you have other needs, contact support@formulatype.com.
Yes, you can install trial fonts on as many workstations as you need for an unlimited time. They are complete versions and can’t be altered, but they can’t be used for commercial purposes without a licence.
Students can use trial fonts for school or educational projects for free. However, they still need to purchase a licence for commercial projects.
We offer 50% off for charities and 25% off for cultural institutions, including museums and schools and publishing companies. If you’re unsure about qualifying for a discount, contact info@formulatype.com.
Using the fonts in political or religious contexts requires written consent from Formula Type.
Basic licences receive .otf files. Basic Plus licenses get .otf and .woff files, while All in One licences come with .otf, .woff, and specific .otf files for apps.
Variable and .ttf formats are available on request.
LAB fonts are perfectly functional. There may be technical updates over time, but they won’t change the design of the version you have.
Our fonts typically work with most software. If you’re unsure about compatibility with a specific program, you can try the trial version or contact us at support@formulatype.com.
Yes, we can make custom versions of our fonts or design original ones for your project. Email info@formulatype.com with your details, and we’ll be happy to discuss it.
We’re always interested in new typefaces! If you’d like to submit one, please send samples and your portfolio (both PDF and website are fine) to support@formulatype.com.
An End User License Agreement (EULA) is a legal document that explains the rights and restrictions associated with using software, often purchased through a retailer.
